The best thing about starting your own macaron business is that you can start small and branch out from there. As soon as you get more successful you can move to larger premises or even start your own macaron shop. That would be nice, right?
Of course, you’re advised to take baby steps at first and consider growing your business when you get more comfortable and experienced especially if running and managing a business is new territory to you.
Before you start advertising your new macaron business to the world you first need a proven recipe and my book gives a fantastic recipe for macarons! You really need to learn how to make bakery-quality macarons as your customers won’t pay you for macawrongs! Your macarons must look sensational and taste divine if you want to be a successful macaronist!
You need to price your macaron creations just right. This is an important strategy and The Macaron Master covers it in great detail.
Next, you need to…
Pick the right business structure for your new macaron business
You need to choose the right business structure for your circumstances. Each business structure has different legal, tax and personal consequences. Generally, the structure under Sole Trader seems to work best for this business but everyone’s situation is different so do your homework!
Pick and register a business name that attracts customers!
A business name is simply a name or title under which you can trade as a business. If the business structure you have chosen is sole trader, then you may be required to register your business name. This is one of the most important steps in starting a macaron business. You need to chose a name that will attract clients and help you be successful.
Next, you need to create some marketing materials to attract new clientele. Once again, I give you tonnes of ideas in the book where you will also learn how to grow your business on a shoestring budget. Remember this, without regular clientele your macaron business will not succeed.
You also need to obtain the right permits from higher authorities. This can be a little complicated especially if you have never done it before. But, don’t try to skip this important step - you don’t want to be on the wrong side of the law! Not a great way to start a new business! The local authorities will need to know how you intend to operate, do you have the right conditions, equipment, permits, etc.
There are other important aspects of starting a macaron business, like insurance, your tax obligations, managing your new business. LOTS of boxes to tick!! Ticking those boxes can be a lot of work especially in the beginning. But, don’t forget…
When the word spreads and people enjoy your macarons you won’t believe how many orders you’ll receive! And if you treat your customers right then your macaron business will grow and prosper. By then you’ll be known as the Macaron Queen or Macaron King so investing a little in that big dream of yours is probably worth it!
I wish you all the macaron success in this little endeavor. Be sure to check out The Macaron Master it gives you a tonne of detailed, step-by-step tips and instructions that will make your life easier and help you become a successful macaron entrepreneur sooner!
